Just feel under the pump for the bolt with one hand whilst positioning the socket on a short extension bar with the other hand. Hold it there while you pop on the rachet and wind away PROVIDING you have already removed to low pressure pipes see above If you have not then you will not be able to push down the pipes to give the required clearance to the socket.
Next release the high pressure outlet pipe using a 12mm spanner wrench to hold the pump outlet and a 13mm one to release pipe collar. Do not worry about the high pressure fuel coming out. This is the point that I realised that although it would be just possible to remove the pump without futher disassembly, space was very tight and would require an uncomfortable amount of bend on the alloy coolant pipe and the pas pipe.

It’s actually quite simple to wire up a new variable speed pool pump, either from Pentair Intelliflo pictured, left , or Hayward. To wire a new Intelliflo or EcoStar pool pump, you can wire it directly to a circuit breaker on the electrical sub-panel. The breaker should be a two-pole breaker, for two wires, and should be a 15 or 20 amp breaker this number is printed on the breaker switch.
If you are using a standard timeclock, pictured at right, you can continue to run power through a V timeclock, directly into your new variable speed pump. You should remove the timer dogs and discontinue use of the clock as a switch. Intelliflo and EcoStar pumps have their own timeclocks, so you will use the on-board clock from now on to control the pump. Variable speed pumps don’t get wired into the back rear of the motor, like standard pool pumps, but rather into the Variable Drive unit.

How Transformers Work There are many sizes, shapes and configurations of transformers from tiny to gigantic like those used in power transmission. Some come with stubbed out wires, others with screw or spade terminals, some made for mounting in PC boards, others for being screwed or bolted down. Transformers are composed of a laminated iron core with one or more windings of wire.
They are called transformers because they transform voltage and current from one level to another. An alternating current flowing through one coil of wire, the primary, induces a voltage in one or more other coils of wire, the secondary coils. It is the changing voltage of AC current that induces voltage in the other coils through the changing magnetic field.
DC voltage such as from a battery or DC power supply will not work in a transformer. Only AC makes a transformer work. The magnetic field flows through the iron core. The faster the voltage changes, the higher the frequency. The lower the frequency, the more iron is required in the core for the efficient transfer of power.
